Quality assurance

The tolerance on your drawing is only worth what the inspection behind it is worth. This is how we check, and what you get in the box with the parts.

The 300% check

Four stages, and the last one is a document

Most suppliers will tell you their parts are inspected. The question is what was checked, against what, and whether there is a record. Ours is: measured on every part, recorded against the drawing revision, and issued in writing.

In-process inspection

Checks happen during the run, not only at the end. A dimension that drifts during a batch is found on the batch that is running, not on the finished part.

Final inspection

Every part is checked against the drawing revision the order was released against. The checks are recorded, not ticked from memory.

The 300% check

Critical features are measured on every single part rather than on a sample from the batch. That is the difference between a part that has been inspected and a part that has been checked.

The written report

Each batch leaves with a dimensional report: what was measured, against which drawing revision, and what the readings were. It goes in the box, with the material certificates.

What the measurements are made with

Everything below is in the building, so a measurement does not wait on a round trip to a laboratory. Each instrument has a calibration schedule, and the calibration record travels with the batch report.

  • Coordinate measuring machine (CMM)
  • Optical projector
  • Height gauge and granite surface plate
  • Digital micrometers, bore gauges and calipers
  • Gear testing machine
  • Material tensile testing machine
  • Hardness testing machine
  • Surface roughness tester
  • Thread and plug gauges

Material certification

Mill test certificates are available on request for forged, cast and heat-treated parts, and are supplied with the shipment where specified on the order.

First article approval

Before a batch runs, a first article is measured against the drawing and approved. Nothing goes into production on the assumption that it will be right.

Batch traceability

Parts from the same batch carry the same batch mark, and the batch mark resolves to the material, the heat treatment and the inspection record behind it.

A note on what we do not claim. This site lists no certification numbers, no named customers and no test results that are not measured in our own workshop. Where a specific certificate is required for your order, ask for it by name and we will send the current one — it belongs on the order, not on a marketing page.

Ask us for the inspection report format

If your quality system needs a specific report or a certificate on every batch, say so in the enquiry and we will send a sample before the first order.

Request a quote

Send a drawing and we will quote it against your material, tolerance and quantity. A description of what the part has to do is enough to start.

We reply within one business day. Your details are used to answer this enquiry and nothing else.
