What this process is

Plastic & Injection Parts, in plain terms

Injection moulding pushes molten polymer into a tool and holds it under pressure until it sets. The part comes out complete — ribs, bosses, threads and fixings are all in the tool, so there is no assembly and no secondary machining. It is the cheapest way to make a complex polymer part in volume, and the tooling is amortised across the run.

When this is the right answer

  • Fluid fittings, seals, boots, clamps and covers
  • Lightweight parts with complex geometry in volume
  • Assemblies where moulding in the fixings removes assembly steps
The trade-off. The mould is a real cost and a lead-time item. Below a few thousand pieces, machining or a bought standard fitting is often the better answer.
