What this process is

Casting Parts, in plain terms

Casting lets a complex shape exist in a material that would be uneconomic to machine from solid. The sand mould is cheap and the metal fills a shape that would take a hundred machining operations to cut. The critical bores and mounting faces are machined afterwards, so the part is accurate where accuracy matters and cast where it does not.

When this is the right answer

  • Housings, frames, valve bodies and large brackets
  • Complex internal passages that cannot be machined
  • Heavy parts where material cost is a real share of the price
The trade-off. Castings need a pattern, and machining allowance has to come off afterwards. The saving comes from the shape and the material, not from the accuracy — do not specify a casting where you need a machined part.

What to send for a quote

  • A drawing, or a part to be reverse-engineered
  • Alloy and the casting standard to work to
  • Part weight and whether a pattern is needed
  • Which faces are machined, and to what tolerance

If you only have some of these, send what you have. We will ask for the rest.

Quote your Casting part

Send a drawing and we will quote it against the material, the tolerance and the quantity. One business day for a part we can quote straight away.
