What this process is

Forging Parts, in plain terms

Forging shapes hot steel by compression, and the result has a grain structure that follows the part rather than being cut across it. That is why forged shafts survive shock loading where a machined-from-plate equivalent fractures. We forge closed-die and open-die, heat-treat to specification, and finish-machine the features that need to be accurate.

When this is the right answer

  • Shafts, spindles, flanges, hubs and gear blanks
  • Parts subject to shock, impact or high cyclic load
  • Components where grain flow determines the service life
The trade-off. Forging needs a die, so there is a setup cost. In exchange the part is stronger than anything machined from the same section, and the material utilisation is far better.
What we make

12 part families

Each family covers a shape and the way it is normally made. Open one for the materials, the processes and the typical applications behind it.

Forged Flange Hubs

Forged steel flange hubs with a raised pilot boss, produced closed-die and finish-machined to suit the mating shaft.

What to send for a quote

  • A drawing with the forging envelope and tolerances
  • Material grade and the heat treatment required
  • Part weight and annual volume
  • Whether the part is supplied forged or finished machined

If you only have some of these, send what you have. We will ask for the rest.

Quote your Forging part

Send a drawing and we will quote it against the material, the tolerance and the quantity. One business day for a part we can quote straight away.
