About this part

What it is and why it is made that way

Sprocket teeth and gear teeth are the highest-stress features on a driven machine. Forging puts the metal where the load is, and the teeth are then cut and heat treated after forging so the case can be hardened without the core losing toughness. Tooth form, pitch and profile shift are all cut to the standard or to your drawing.

  • Forged blank with the tooth region in the high-density zone
  • Tooth profile cut and heat treated after forging
  • Hardened or through-hardened to specification
  • Bore and pilot finished to the shaft fit

Materials

  • C45 / 40Cr carbon steel
  • 42CrMo alloy steel
  • 20CrMnTi / 20CrMnMo gear steel
  • Stainless 304 / 17-4PH
  • Alloy steel 40CrNiMoA

Production processes

  • Open-die forging
  • Closed-die forging
  • Hot and cold forging
  • Heat treatment
  • CNC finish machining

Typical applications

  • Chain drives
  • Conveyor drives
  • Indexing and positioning
