About this part
What it is and why it is made that way
Ring flanges are the flat, full-bore style used where a raised face is not wanted — or not permitted by the sealing method. The sealing face is machined after forging and the bore is bored in the same setup, so the face stays parallel to the bore. This matters: a sealing face that is not parallel will not hold a gasket evenly.
