About this part

What it is and why it is made that way

Investment casting holds thin walls and fine detail that sand casting cannot, which is why it is used for instrument housings and sensor mounts. The wall thickness stays uniform across the casting, and the mounting face and bore are machined so the part registers against what it bolts to.

  • Uniform thin walls held through the casting
  • Mounting faces and bores machined after casting
  • Fine surface finish straight from the mould
  • Stainless, alloy steel and aluminium grades

Materials

  • Stainless 304 / 316L
  • Carbon steel 1045 / 4140
  • Alloy steel 17-4PH
  • Bronze and brass (CuSn10, CuZn37)
  • Aluminium A356

Production processes

  • Investment casting (lost wax)
  • Lost-wax casting
  • Shell moulding
  • Deburring and shot blasting
  • CNC finish machining

Typical applications

  • Instrument and sensor housings
  • Thin-wall covers and shells
